Warmwater Fly Fishing Season is Upon Us

Spring is here in Colorado!
It's that wonderful time of year when the Front Range Lakes start to wake up. Fly fishing for carp, bass, panfish, and wipers should be in full swing here by the end of the month.
Colorado is well known for its trout fishing, but our warm water fishing can be just as impressive. Our local reservoirs are home to numerous fish, some of trophy proportions and can be a great alternative to the trout streams we all know. As fly fishing continues to gain popularity and our highways to the hills become more and more crowded pointing the car in the opposite direction can yield serenity and great rewards.
We are excited to have permits to guide on Boyd Lake, Jackson Reservoir, and Union Reservoir. These lakes all offer different opportunities to perfect your craft in the warmwater fly fishing game. Jackson is home to very large wiper and also has some of the best carp fishing in the state. Boyd Lake is home to white bass, small and largemouth bass, and walleye, any of which will wreck a well-presented baitfish fly. Union Reservoir is my personal favorite as it has an abundance of wiper. A boat is needed to effectively fish these bodies of water.
If you have ever considered trying out the warmwater fly fishing game, a guided trip is a great way to start. Get out in the yard and work on your double-haul, plan on casting in some wind, and mentally prepare yourself for some of the most aggressive streamer it's you can encounter in freshwater!
On a side note, we are thrilled to have Jim Weatherwax joining the warmwater guide staff. Jim is a dedicated warmwater angler and lives and breathes this stuff.
